Mark A. FramstadMark A. Framstad, MD, serves as Chief Executive Officer for Anesthesia Concepts, LLC.

Dr. Framstad has significant experience in the management and leadership of anesthesia, peri-operative personnel, and surgical services.  His experience ranges from smaller community sized hospitals to medium-sized local medical centers; all with a 70 percent or higher same day surgery mixture of cases.  He has worked with Anesthesia Concepts and Global Anesthesia Services for more than 10 years at various ambulatory surgery center locations.  Dr. Framstad’s extensive clinical experience and leadership of peri-operative surgical services for almost 20 years has taught him how to maximize operating room performance and facilitate surgeon access, satisfaction and efficiency to surgical services.  Through his work with mainly outpatient surgical services and years of work with Anesthesia Concepts, he has developed a patient centered and surgeon focused philosophy to anesthesia care and surgical suite management; concentrating on high quality, safe, and cost effective care.

Dr. Framstad was commissioned in the United States Army in 1989 and received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1993 from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.  He completed a Surgical Internship at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, Denver, CO; served as a General Medical Officer with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) in KY from 1994 – 1997, providing medical training and primary care to the Special Operations community and local civilian populations on assignments to Haiti and various locations in the Middle East and Africa.  He completed his medical training in Anesthesia Residency from Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX from 1997 – 2000.

From 2000-2005 Dr. Framstad was the Chief of Anesthesia and Chief of Department of Surgery in a community hospital in Wuerzburg, Germany.  This was a 50-bed hospital performing mainly ambulatory surgical services and obstetric care.  While in Germany he served from January 2004 – March 2005 in Mosul, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; serving as both anesthesiologist and as the Chief of Clinical Services of a 4 OR, 50 bed combat hospital.  Dr. Framstad provided anesthesia and critical care to hundreds of trauma and medical casualties, managed the coordination of moving the entire hospital on two separate occasions, and on many occasions provided leadership and management of limited resources of equipment, supplies, and personnel throughout non-emergency and emergency situations.

From July 2005 – July 2008 Dr. Framstad worked at DeWitt Army Community Hospital at Fort Belvoir, VA where he served as Chief of Anesthesia and from March 2007 – June 2008 as Chief of Surgery.  This was a 100 bed, 4 OR hospital with more than 80% ambulatory surgical cases.  Anesthesia services were concentrated on outpatient orthopedic cases using a wide variety of regional anesthesia techniques, pediatric otolaryngology cases, and same day general, gynecological, and plastic surgery procedures.

In 2008-2011 Dr. Framstad worked at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, NC.  This is a 12 OR, 150 bed medical center that performed more than 1,000 cases per month.  As Chief of Anesthesia and later the Chief of Surgery, he was successful in directing significant improvements in the utilization and productivity of the anesthesia and surgical services.  He provided positive leadership for a team approach to an anesthesia service of more than 50 anesthesia providers; anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists.  Dr. Framstad deployed for another six months in 2009 to Baghdad, Iraq.  Providing trauma anesthesia care and assisted with the opening of a new hospital and coordination of care, equipment, and protocol for numerous surgical services.

From June 2011 to June 2017, Dr. Framstad worked at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Northern Virginia.  He served as the Chief of Anesthesia and peri-operative services during the successful opening of a 10 OR, 155 bed state of the art community hospital.  He oversaw the implementation of a standardized and streamlined approach to patient management for the entire peri-operative process, electronic medical records, clinically proven and cost effective protocols and pharmacologic management.  Dr. Framstad led the integration of a wide array of anesthesia personnel to meet the needs of the numerous surgical specialties and hospital services.  The focus of the hospital and surgical services was more than 80% outpatient surgical caseload; concentrating on a patient centered and surgeon focused mentality.  Patient safety and satisfaction, surgeon access, cost effectiveness, and high performance, utilization and efficiency were the cornerstone of successful management for this hospital.

Dr. Framstad believes in a team approach to surgical suite management focusing on quality, safe patient care with high patient and surgeon satisfaction.  By keeping these philosophies in mind, Dr. Framstad provides anesthesia and peri-operative management and leadership that ensures success on a consistent basis to all types of surgical centers.
